I offer my gratitude and thanks to all the current and former service members of the armed forces and their families. As the spouse of a 22 year veteran, I understand the sacrifices made by the soldier and their family. So proud of LTC Skeeter Bird and his years of service and thankful to God for his protection. As spouses, mostly far away from our families, we have to become extremely independent, strong willed and tenacious to endure the multiple moves, lengthy deployments, limited contact and inevitable problems at home without our capable companion there to help. We are the way we are because we had to be. The next day after deployment is when the heater goes out in -20 degree weather, the washer breaks down, the sewer backs up or the kids get sick, worse yet you do! Living in 13 homes, packing/unpacking, staying behind to clean and sell the house, sell the car, and constantly saying good bye to friends takes a lot of commitment. I am by no means complaining. I would do it all again. If you ever have the opportunity to thank a veteran, know that many times, there is another exhausted, but extremely proud, often fearful person that is standing behind them, supporting them, applauding them and also sacrificing so they can do what they do. Thank you veterans and families. God bless you.
