I only knew Molly Ivins as a fan. I read one of her books about Texas Politics, probably in the 1990s and fell in love with her acid tongued wit that seemed always to be directed at some deserving public servant. I certainly didnt know her biography or much about her personal life so Last nights preview performance was for me both educational and incredibly entertaining. A one person show is a huge challenge for an actor not just because of all the memorization but because you need to be entertaining and charismatic enough to hold an audiences attention for the duration of a performance and Gail Mangham is certainly up to the challenge. Her transformation was complete, She delivers Ms. Ivins zingers in just the right tone and is seemingly just as passionate as her subject was about civil liberties. Best of all for us ADHD types, her pacing was such that 85 minutes just flew by. The entire performance had a polished air thanks to Julie Harringtons direction and a capable supporting crew-not to mention Joseph Hough the coffee...er copy boy. I strongly encourage anyone interested in acting, Theater or our constitutional freedoms to go and see this show. Bravo !
