I participated in my first election in 1991, I was an 18 year old - TopicsExpress

I participated in my first election in 1991, I was an 18 year old who did this more out of curiosity than participating in Governance. I was not a voter but a monitor, imagine at 18 years you are monitoring an election. Those days we had UNIP and MMD and for me who accompanied my mum to vote in 1988 I was more amazed to see an opponent of Kaunda being on the ballot paper when 3 years earlier there was a frog. Fast forward, I first voted in 2001 and since then I have voted in each and every election. I have made the same choice for ideological purposed. I do believe in a mixed economy of private sector thriving to create the taxes from where Government will get money to finance social services. I have in the meantime, especially after the advent of social media, I have seen colleagues who were MMD, shift to PF, back in MMD, into NAREP and then UPND, then UPPP. I find that interesting because I ask, just what political ideology do you subscribe to? Secondly I have seen an emerging trend of 18 year olds trying to change the course of history by bringing in outrageous parallels. This is my appeal to the older generation, let us not alter history by staying away from debate (no matter how gutter it is), and try to direct those that were not there when Governments ran like Governments and not an extension of political parties. For those 18 year olds, have an opinion, but dont for once think that you have all the facts. VIVA MATURE
