I posted this clip a few months ago, but its worth a rerun. This is an incident involving the Bloomfield NJ police department and the unasked question is why they were doing this? The answer may be graft. I think the police in some instances are getting paid to collar people so they can be placed in jail. . Why? So the prison contractors can keep the beds filled and continue getting paid. In other words, theyre seeking to create crime where there is none. This sort of thing works best with a vulnerable population where plea bargaining is common because legal help and bail are often unaffordable, so you get many innocent people pleading guilty to lesser charges just simply to get out of jail. This is where the subject of the clip was headed before being saved by the uncovering of the film. A frequent topic of this page is foreign policy and thats so for a reason. Things rarely function in isolation but are part of a system. Ive not had a chance to comment in depth on the recent CIA torture disclosures, but they operate mainly on the same overarching principle in the sense that terrorists have been created so contract psychologists can get paid to extract information. There were many innocent people tortured so someone could get paid just like many innocents are being jailed domestically so someone can get paid. Ill talk more about CIA situation later, but the point is that police abuse, militarization and the prison industrial complex are part of the same wave of privatization (i.e. the same system) that brought us war contractors and CIA torture contractors. And I suspect the further one digs down that rabbit hole, youll likely find the same group of folks have economic interests in both.
