I read post daily from people on Facebook complaining about addiction and Heroin abuse in particular, and I read the judgments and lack of empathy for those suffering from a debilitating lack of control; drug abuse has nothing has nothing to do with willpower. Chemicals and receptors in your brain are being flooded, rewarded and eventually -- rewired. I do not use Heroin. I am obviously not defending the use of this powerful narcotic. I am a dreamer, but I am also a realist. No one has ever been able to control what one does to their body throughout the history of humankind and never will; not for long and not successfully. The drug war has been a ginormous failure and has wrecked many families, been the cause of numerous murders and vendettas, not only in the United States but in Mexico, Columbia, Afghanistan, and numerous other drug producing countries around the globe. I have had many injuries in my life due to the military, sports and just being a natural born klutz (Im left handed, too). I was hit by a car and broke the femur bone in my left leg, broke all my ribs, and my big toe. I have had two ACL and a MCL injuries, a dislocated shoulder, and far too many others to mention. lol I have had to take a lot of pain medication. I remember the feeling of Morphine entering my body at the age of nine and the wave of euphoria that rushed over me. My pain was was manageable and I was able to be happy, instead of a scared nine year old boy -- all alone in a white room with strangers taking care of me. My ACl injuries were gruesome. I was on a narcotic numerous times for long durations. Your body aches and craves for that medicine when your doctor tells you you are healed and takes you off of everything in an instant. You feel dead inside and youre hurting terribly mentally and physically. It is easy to see how addiction starts. Many people are hurting from emotional pain that is not easily diagnosed and start self medicating, many people become addicted from being prescribed medications by their family doctors for too long of periods, also. Its time we have empathy and show kindness to those who are hurting and need our help the most. The easiest and most hypocritical thing one can do, is to judge and condemn a fellow human for being in pain; instead reach out with a hand and your heart. You never know what might happen to you in life, what pain you might have to endure, and would you not want to be helped or at least be given a chance to succeed, instead of condemned and shunned. Its time to stop being a hater and try being a lover, ffs. Word.
