I really hesitate to humble myself like this, but I have an unusual request for my Facebook Friends. I signed up a year ago to serve as a guardian for an elderly veteran on one of the Indy Honor Flight trips. Most of these veterans are in their 90s now, and the guardians assist with pushing wheelchairs, helping attend to the men on the flight, etc. I have until April 1st to raise $450 to cover the cost of my flight on May 10th if I want to serve as a guardian that day and escort some of these outstanding men on a tour of their memorial in Washington, D.C. I fully intended to pay for this myself, but I was laid off two weeks ago, and I am just now starting to find some part-time work. My cash flow is too tight at the moment to afford this trip. Indy Honor Flight is a non-profit organization created solely to honor Indianas veterans for all their sacrifices. They transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials. Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those veterans who may be terminally ill. Of all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation — and as a culturally diverse, free society. Now, with over 900 World War II veterans dying each day, our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out. I am going to make an extra large card out of poster board and attach all the messages of my donors to it and present it to my guys before we go on the trip.
