I really, really dont like this. While there are some truisms buried in the cynicism, its the general tone that hacks me off. Too many artist friends speak like this - a general self-pitying moan about the state of the industry and any of these particular points (not being able to buy a house, etc.) - and its one of my biggest industry bugbears. Not only do all such moans make you sound the worst kind of entitled, its counter to what you SHOULD be doing with your time - making good art. Neil Gaiman gave a whole speech about it and everything, and hit the nail on the head - youre an artist, make art. Anything that isnt about making art - suck it up, roll with the punches, grin and bear it. Otherwise youll NEVER get to be the artist you want to be because you wont actually DO anything. Except have conversations and write articles like this.
