I received a phone call from an old friend, someone I have known since I was 15. Over the years we lost touch, would regain it, and then lose it again, always picking it up somewhere along the way. That happens in middle age. Well, he told me he had cancer, had just found out and that I was the first one he called. You never know what to say to someone who just learned what a time bomb sounds like. I did my best. We had some deep moments, talked of the past, chemotherapy and heavy metal. And we had some major laughs talking about the wild and crazy times we had BITD. Then, after I hung up the phone, I sat on the backyard grass in the sunshine and cried. People, hold your friends and family close. Let go of trivial things and live your life....now. You never know when you, too, might learn to hear the sounds of time ticking yourself. Love. Love everything.
