I received this early today from a friend of mine. He is not a politician but a concerned citizen. Nigerians are worried about the state of our country , and they are giving expression to it. DO PLEASE READ. 2015: It’s APC vs FGN As you seat today these are a few points to reflect on. If you drive round Abuja you will notice bold “X” marks on certain billboards either by APCON, the FG agency that regulates advertising, or FCT authorities. What that tells you is that outdoors advertising is regulated in Abuja. But not a single pro-Jonathan board has been marked for removal. TAN alone has over 350 boards in the city centre AND THEY ARE ALL ILLEGAL. APCON and FCT are looking aside as their own contribution to GEJ re-election. I don’t have to tell you about the role FG media have been playing or EFCC or AMCON or CBN that just re-did the Naira note that carries Awo’s picture to bribe the South West. Federal agencies are falling over themselves to be seen to be chipping something in towards GEJ re-election. APC is competing against the FG rather than the PDP. I referred to these examples which may appear mundane to show that it is not just those who can sack judges from their courts, seal up the parliament and tear-gas legislators or those who will hide behind security to violate a political party’s sensitive space illegally, that pose danger to our democracy and insult our collective sensibilities. Even by African standards, except you live in Zimbabwe, impunity is no longer as bad as what is going on in Nigeria. AND THE LEGISLATURE IS TO BLAME. From the word go when you allowed him to get away with criminal extra-budgetary expenditure on fuel subsidy to the most recent desecration of the parliament by his police you’ve made him become accustomed to treating you as if you were not there. Separation of powers is elementary Government! Has this National Assembly pulled it’s weight? If history will eternally remember the last Senate for the “Doctrine of Necessity,” what will this predictable Senate be remembered for? I am writing this to you because you are regarded as a voice of reason in that chamber. The Senate must stand up for separation of powers. If you cannot fight for yourselves, how can you fight for us? It is because you are not checking the executive arm that impunity is threatening our democracy. HEADS MUST ROLL. Considering our political history, we cannot go into an election year with a character like Sulaiman Abah as IGP. Like Sunday Adewusi, he has demonstrated that he cannot handle it lest we play with fire. He must go. The DG of DSS whose service said they did not know they were invading APC’s office in Lagos “because there was no sign-board” has again demonstrated gross incompetence. Why are they a secret service if they need signboards to know what’s happening where? He needs to be sanctioned. If the president cannot hold them accountable, then he should be held accountable. For how long willthe Senate President be acting for calm and stability when the man with primary responsibility for peace and security keeps heating up the polity in the name of re-election? My two pennies for our nation. Have a nice day my brother.
