I remember her walking up tirelessly the stairs of Soweto at University of Nairobis KNH campus when I was in my third year if studies. Soweto is a very tall building that used to house 3rd and 4th year students. The going was tough but she was determined to see me through University. HELB did not make the situation as they were only allocating a loan of Ksh 25,000,00 out of a maximum of 52,000.00. She would boil some Githeri, pack it in plastic papers then bring it to me with raw cabbages, potatoes, tomatoes and Onions. That assured me of at least three day supply of meals. I had to cook for myself as I could not afford to buy food from the students mess. She struggled with me and stood by my side until the then president Moi, then the chancellor of Nairobi University gave me the Power to Read and do all that appertained to my degree quoting pore conferred upon him by by the University senate. Shes nothing other but my mum whom I love so much; She made me what Im today though her relentless efforts to help me escape the curse of poverty that made me miss the whole of form two and three education at Dagoretti high school but emerged among the tops in KCSE. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY MU LOVELY MUM WAIRIMU... “A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.”~Washington Irving
