I remember skipping high school on a Friday so that I could get ready to head down to New York for my very first Latex Ball. I was Jahaira Latex back then. And getting to see Octavia, Tracy, Portia, and the woman whod go on to be my mother, Carmen Xtravaganza under that spotlight, on a runway that in my young mind looked about 20 feet high, was an experience Ive never forgotten. Never would I have believed that one day Id go on to walk that runway and judge that Ball two years back-to-back. I am SO blessed to have been part of this places history. RIP Roseland, you were the beginning of my dream.
