I remember tony talking about her yrs ago at the living planet. It was the first time I heard that women were the first drummers y spirit leaders before the paternalistic religions crushed the truth, burned the books y persecuted the women. It is with deep saddness I share that On Monday Oct. 28th my dear Frame Drum Teacher Muse, Inspiration, Trail Blazing, BEE Priestess, Goddess of the Drum left her earthly body and took flight into the next realm. She was diagnosed with cancer in June and given one to two months to live. And she lived these last few months to the fullest. She said it was the best days of her life. She was cremated Oct. 31st and people globally gathered to honor and send her off. Students of hers gathered at the beach and we offered this song https://facebook/photo.php?v=10151824349873495&set=vb.709208494&type=2&theater I wanted to honor her. I leave you with one of her quotes. Blessings, Miranda We are always together in the place of blessings, flourishing on the bank of the calm mind, filled with our song of satisfied creation, radiant in the pulse of all that is, of all that ever was, of all that ever will be.......We begin again, to begin at the beginning, to end again, to end at the beginning......We begin to begin, to begin at the beginning, to end, to begin, to begin at the ending... ~ Layne Redmond (Aug. 19th 1952 - Oct. 28th 2013) She lived her lasts days with courage, grace, and determination to finish her film and the new edition of her book to be reprinted. She has inspired thousands of women and men with her book When the Drummers Were Women and has taught and inspired many to drum over the last 20 years. She has changed many lives along the way and opened a path for many women to drum, to create sacred ritual space and follow their dreams. She has left a legacy of resources to be continued to be shared for generations to come. She has written a number of books, recorded many music projects, written articles, created instructional material on cd, dvd and youtube, designed her own line of signature series drums with REMO, produced films, and has researched and collected thousands of images of women frame drummers recovering their spiritual historic significance. She was known as a Master Frame drummer, teacher, author, historian, mythologist, composer, recording artist, film maker, educator, world traveller, yogini and Bee Priestess. All the Women Frame Drumming Page pages are dedicated to Layne Redmond. She will be greatly missed. We are in Deep Gratitude for the path she has paved for many along the way. May your flight return home be full of peace, love and light. May you always be in the hearts of all those who have been touched by you.
