I resent people who take upon themselves to chasten others on religious issues. Ive always been a firm believer that it must be left to the discretion of the individual as to how he likes to practice his religion. Im not a favorite in Muslim religious circles here because Im not anyone would call a devout Muslim. I dont fast all thirty days, I dont pray five times a day (actually it is once a week), and I dont do many other things that are expected from a Muslim. Many of my Muslim patients try to preach me on religious issues and Ive so far been able to circumvent them successfully without letting them feel that I resent their attempts. In fact they preach me saying that it is a part of their duty as pious Muslims. This elderly gentleman, who has gouty arthritis all over his body, has diabetes, has had survived two hearty attacks, his kidneys are on the brink, insisted on me learning few verses, that if I recited twice every night before sleeping, I would not get any disease. I thought to myself look whos talking...
