I saw the group called The New Basement Tapes on CBS Saturday. WOW!! They are Elvis Costello, Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James, Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons), and Rhiannon Giddens (The Carolina Chocolate Drops - who I saw here during Seven Days 2 years ago). The album is Lost on the River and is a collection of recently discovered lyrics handwritten by Bob Dylan during his reclusive period after his 1966 motorcycle accident, never before recorded. This collaboration of these outstanding artists is produced by T Bone Burnett, the genius behind most of the best music heard today. If the entire album is like the two songs they performed this a.m. - Duncan & Jimmy and Liberty Street - then it is by far the best to be released in a long time. I definitely want it, Santa! I submit a sample for your listening pleasure.
