I see the debates about whether Steven Gerrard should stay or go - TopicsExpress

I see the debates about whether Steven Gerrard should stay or go are ongoing and picking up pace as the International break plays havoc with the bored imaginations of the many. It’s quite an uncomfortable topic for the many devoted fans of Captain Fantastic, but rather than ignore the issue, it might be better to face the fact that it will happen sooner or later. As a long time fan of the player in question, I do realize his days are numbered and I don’t have any real issue with that. My issue would be when and how do Liverpool finally let go of such an ambassador for Liverpool on the playing field. You see, we all know that Steven Gerrard’s best days as a player are behind him. His value now is his experienced and his knowledge as well as his leadership and every now and then he will produce some epic moments to add to the list he has already provided. At a time when so many young players as well as new players are finding their feet at LFC, it’s important that the services of Gerrard are maintained for as long as possible because without him ,there is no one really groomed to play such an important role as he does. Any question of a January departure should be dismissed as pure rubbish because Liverpool wouldn’t be stupid enough to take the oil out of the engine while it is still driving uphill. So when do Liverpool eventually decide they don’t need the services of Gerrard or if it’s up to Gerrard , when does he decide to leave ? Preferable at the end of a season which would mean Liverpool would have the whole summer months to make adjustments. Rumours over the last few weeks are that Liverpool are prepared to offer a one year contract. Another rumour is that Gerrard has asked for two years. It’s all a bit fiddle at the moment but I expect an agreement will be sorted out soon and if Steven Gerrard is to leave Liverpool, it won’t be in the middle of a season, but rather on a day when Liverpool fans will be able to do it personally at Anfield. #fran #lfc
