I share this video for a few reasons. I know a lot of us have gotten pulled over by police. I think it is fair that we know our legal rights so we may not get harassed by policemen. Dont get me wrong, Im not saying all policemen in Tanzania are bad, but I believe it is fair to know where to stand. Tanzania’s police force has the highest number of bribe cases in the entire East African Community, according to the East Africa Bribery Index 2013 (EABI) released in October 2013. Tanzania’s Police law enforcers scored 72.9 per cent in bribery aggregation. Today, when I was driving, back from Bunju to Mbezi. A policeman stopped me and demanded me to bribe him. I refused as I knew I had no fault. I even recorded the entire conversation with the video camera on my cellphone and have forwarded it on accordingly. Heres what happened. The sad story is, I believe that this might be a larger crime industry than regular theft itself. Who knows how much money is exchanged on a daily basis? Just be careful, know your rules on the road, and dont fear when a police pulls you over, answer respectfully. Cheers everyone.
