I stopped by the local library in Colorado Springs today to see if I could surprise a friend who works there. She wasn’t there, but I had a great conversation with a historian there about an old friend of mine named Paul Idelman (the deceased father of my friend) - a photographer and historian. I was given an essay in a book to read about how Paul was drawn to preserve the glass plates and learn as much as he could about a photographer who lived many years before him. He did do a documentary about this photographer. But his ultimate goal was to do a high-end coffee table book. I wonder if I will feel compelled to realize his dream when I am older someday. Perhaps in my retirement years. After living away for 20 years, I still feel very connected to this city.
