I thank God for sending to me witnesses and teachers who were unashamed of the Gospel of Christ and did not try to soften the teachings of Scripture to make it more palatable or politically correct. I thank Him that I had men and women of God who discipled me and held me accountable when I became a Christian. I praise Him that He so filled them with the Holy Spirit that they lived their professions of faith and displayed the love of Christ so that while they spoke truth into my life, they never came across judgmental. I rejoice that they prayed for and with me, walked beside me, studied Gods Word with me, and taught me how to study and understand through the eyes and mind of faith. Most of all, I give God all the glory because His Holy Spirit worked in me so that I saw and heard love and encouragement even when I was admonished and corrected. I am not at all convinced that I would have become a Christian in these days when so many are more concerned about appearing acceptable. and being liked, and being popular. What I needed was to see the love and grace of Christ and my need for Him. What I needed was to be convicted of my sinful condition and convinced of my need for repentance. What I needed was the Gospel courageously and thoroughly preached because God gave me a mind and while sweet words may sooth for a season, they hold no power and dissipate in the quiet of night when I am confronted by truth. If I had been sold a cheap grace devoid of conviction and demand for a holy response, even my reasoning mind would have eventually rejected it. If I had been sold a prosperity gospel and a health, wellness, and welfare gospel, even my reasoning mind would have eventually seen through the lies that they are. This is because even the most cursory reading of Scripture will testify against these and my inner man with the law written in my heart would recognize them as words spoken by wolves in sheep clothing.
