I think that it was a good idea for Sharpton to back out of the Oxford Union debate. He probably had no idea what the Oxbridge Unions are .. the nursery of future parliamentarians and world leaders. This young lady is someone to watch... a future Prime Minister? She puts the argument very well.. no frills.. just facts. Several of The Union debates have been moments of important history... to be referred to time and again as hinges in society when the future has been changed.. or at least they have exposed the philosophical differences in society that has clarified the thinking of a generation. probably one of the most famous, if not notorious debates was The King and Country debate. Some of the most famous politicians of the 20th century were, as undergraduates, to take up the debate that evening. Wiki has a list of those who took part in it and a synopsis of the debate . I am old enough to remember people who took The Oxford Oath and went on to fight in WW2. There was also a debate with the Rev. Ian Paisley (you can look him up) , another Sharpton type character who was good at hate filled speeches, but was vanquished by the controlled structure of The Union debate and merely looked foolish and hate filled.... SOOO it is good for Sharpton that hestepped down and saved his own face... but I sincerely hope David Webb will go to debate , because he is a clever, cogent thinker and , as he himself says he has been on debating teams for years. He will be able to provide a very interesting opposition . I hope he will be well wined and dined at The Union .. as that is very much part of the whole experience !
