I used to give Pepper, our German Short Haired Pointer, ice cubes - TopicsExpress

I used to give Pepper, our German Short Haired Pointer, ice cubes all the time as she loved them. As I was reading this, I couldnt help think and relive my last moments with Tar Heel. He died in my arms as a result of GDV (Gastric Dilatation Volvulus) as a result from vomiting/dry heaving after his elective surgery. I watched his stomach bloat, he arched his back as I held his head and was completely helpless to help him. He looked as if he was either having a heart attack or stroke right before my eyes. As a seasoned ICU nurse, this was tortuous to watch. Anyway, GDV can occur from overfeeding your dog too. The stomach turns on itself from the vomiting/wretching and thus cuts off blood supply and demise most often occurs. It was literally heart wrenching to witness.
