I want to repost this very thoughtful comment from the previous post. Its relevant and points this discussion in a positive direction. Thanks to all the people that have cared for and stewarded the springs in a sacred way. This is going to be a really long post from a pragmatic and caring perspective, though i understand if you skip it because of the length. Ive never written so much on Facebook, this seems a good time to do it. There will however, be no quiz at the end: I care deeply for the canyon, residents, respectful visitors, and my many unique experiences there helping to craft who i am. Some of my finest relations have come from the times i lived there, both above and below the dam, and the amazing wildlife for which it is home. Here is the ecotopia mission statement from ojaihotsprings: The Ojai Hotsprings are currently managed by Ecotopia, a religious non-profit organization dedicated to consciously stewarding sacred land. We believe there is a universal spiritual movement – calling humans to be part of promoting and protecting conscious living in accordance with Natural Law. Ecotopia provides a platform for members to be of service to the Earth and to each other- applying our lives to create a positive future where we can live with higher levels of cooperation and mutual success. Lets take this mission for real, as we are discussing a religious organization dedicated to a lot of good stuff; that ecotopia currently manages the sacred land, and we need that service of quality stewardship. Who else is now organized to do that other than ecotopia? I previously posted some interesting info about the cougar hot springs community in oregon (cougar.org) , perhaps there are some good ideas there to apply here. Gunnar et al basically have had lifelong or longterm relationships there and that counts for a lot, especially since ive experienced gunnar as a caring user of hot springs even before the recent acquisition of the surrounding area. The best management (imho) will preserve the natural state/quality of the sacred area, while allowing those protecting and respecting the place almost unfettered access while being safe from trash and glass breakage, unacceptable defecation and pollution, and cherishing tranquility that allows for our highest nature connection. Im not convinced that more development is better... not hardwired electric, but possibly a landline phone for safety, as cell phones usually have no reception there. Gunnar Lovelace has a lot going on, perhaps more (with about 5000 Facebook friends and multiple business endeavors) than to effectively earn the trust of everybody, and so the official religious corporation managers may make (are making?) some questionable decisions. id like some sort of community advisory council to add to the good vibes of what happens next, so we all as a community can be heard and valid concerns addressed. Taking potshots here and there without beneficial results isnt our best use of energy. All of us who care are on THE SAME TEAM, so lets organize for every reasonable voice to be heard and integrated creating a positive future where we can live with higher levels of cooperation and mutual success. And to Lex Laihala, I hope the eventual outcome of your good efforts will be much more satisfying than the response so far. Personally, Ive spent an ojai winter in a tipi which was wonderful. I also prefer to poop in a compost bucket and filter my own drinking water when in nature. I dont know whether a tipi or other traditional tent/structure to stay warm and dry was made available to you, but an actual building seems premature, if not inappropriate. Im also sorry your feelings were hurt for the reasons you mentioned, though there is always time to revisit relationships for the higher good of all parties. You undoubtedly have a lot to offer having been there alone for 8 months... Wow! anyway, its 4:45am and ive taken up enough space here for the next few months (?!), so please message me or invite more positive involvement here with those who are truly ready for it now. Winter rains are cleansing the area, so things can more readily advance this beautiful story we write together. Namasté all, X
