I want to tell you about COMMON CORE and an honor student...... This child has several presidental awards from Clinton, Bush, and Obama. This child is a Quest student, a yearly Mississippi Scholar, a 1st chair trumpet player, and a black belt apprentice in martial arts. This child averaged 100 in science last year and 85-98 in mathmatics. This childs MCT2 scores are above average. This child took the 1st test in math this year and scored a 100. This child took a core curriculum (SMI) scholastic math inventory test and didnt CORE well. Soooooo SOMEONE with the school decided to take it upon themselves to take my child out of band at least twice a week and place him in a core intervention program!?!?!?!?!? (RTI) Response to Intervention classes without parental consent! No call, no note. They just did it, unbelievable! Keep in mind that this childs 1st test in math scored a perfect 100. NATIONALLY WHAT IS RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION? Response to Intervention (RtI) is an early detection, prevention, and support system that attempts to identify and assist struggling students with appropriate levels of intervention. It is a framework for making instructional decisions based on data, and consists of four components: Universal screening using an assessment tool Identification and placement of students into three tiers of instruction based on their respective needs for intervention Interventional instruction as appropriate for each student’s tier Continual monitoring to check progress and ensure compliance Additionally, the development and fluency of basic math skills are crucial components of RtI, especially for Tier 3 students who may lack a critical foundation of mastered math facts.
