I wanted to share with you one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Well over 30 years ago, I served as a missionary in the Missouri St. Louis Mission. It was very easy for me to come to love the people of this area. Just six months out, I remember knocking on the door of an amazing lady. I do not remember my companion, or the other families we taught, but I remember Shelly Polette. I know I was lead by The Spirit to knock on Shelly’s door and teach her The Gospel of Jesus Christ. I still remember many of our wonderful discussions we had over several months. And then, it happens to all missionaries. I was transferred to Champaign Illinois. I stopped by her home before I left and gave her a tape of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Time passed, and a couple letters were exchanged but I never forgot Shelly. From time to time, I wondered about what ever happened to my friend.… Until…. This week. Thanks to Facebook Shelly found me, to let me know she was baptized last week. She is now a member of God’s church and has received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She thanked me, for planting a seed so many years ago. I am grateful, she remembered how she felt when I taught her, and recognized it again when she recently let the missionaries in again. We all, plant seeds. Our purpose on this earth is to help others. Sometimes we seed those seeds grow. Other times they grow where we cannot see. The most important thing is we plant the seeds. Shelly, I am so grateful that you have found what has brought me so much happiness in my life. I know you will continue to feel the peace and joy; the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring you. I love this quote in tonights women’s conference by President Henry B. Eyring, After reading Mosiah 18:8-11 (https://lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/18.11?lang=eng#10) He said, “You may not have clapped your hands when you first heard that invitation to covenant by baptism. But you surely felt the love of The Savior, and a greater commitment to nurture others for him.” (President Henry B. Eyring, Women’s Conference March 29, 2014) We can help each other find Happiness!
