I was a bit taken aback this afternoon by a reply to a post made by a friend of mine. This friend mentioned serving in the military and being proud of living in this country. Fair enough. I replied with support, mentioning my pride in all of my Facebook friends who have served. What got to me was a reply from another of that persons friends who had not only served, but has continued to serve in the capacity of a law enforcement officer. Good for that person, too, until the little conniption fit about idiot liberals in Washington and the idiot liberals who voted them in. What disturbs me is that the person writing those comments took an oath to join our military, as well as an oath to protect and serve in a police department to protect everyone... not just a few people who may share his political viewpoint... EVERYONE! We are entitled to our own opinions and we are all protected by the same Constitution. However, if an officer of the law, or a soldier sworn to protect and defend our Constitution and our liberties take the attitude that certain citizens are not worthy of those protections because of their political views, well, were in a heap of trouble. Yes, we seem to have stumbled into a divisive era, fueled by this darn interweb. What we are capable of doing is paying respect for those who have served without injecting the same political poison we are subjected to day in and day out. It should be left at that. That being said, THANK YOU to those of you who have served. This person, at least, is proud of what you have done.
