I was asked to post what I thought were the best dog treats for my dogs. This could become a very touchy subject but here goes Ed Guimond!! These are MY OPINIONS!!! I am not telling you what to do with your dogs Im just saying what I WONT do with mine!! 1. I would NEVER feed rawhide. To me that is job security for your vet. Way too many animals have had to have surgery to remove because they can’t digest it. That includes pig ears and hooves. The later two can also be extremely salty. 2. (Probably should be #1) NOTHING FROM CHINA!!!! You must look at the small print because many of the large USA companies have their products made in China. 3. Tables scraps are a NO NO in my house! Do they get them once in a while?? Yes, even I can’t resist the sad puppy eyes. Table scraps should not be the main ingredient in your dogs meal. 4. I use plain old Alpo Snaps. They only get a treat on their way to bed. NO treats are good in an over abundance. If you think it’s hard to get your extra weight off wait till you try and do it with a plump dog. An over weight dog is not a healthy dog. Don’t kill them with what you perceive as kindness! Veggies are a good snack for the food motivated dog. Mine LOVE green beans!!! They also like carrots but there is a lot of sugar in carrots :-( 5. NO Alpo Snaps are not the top of the top by no means. I do make treats for them but only when I have absolutely nothing to do. Those treats will include ingredients like peanut butter, sweet potatoes or pumpkin. I can find my recipe you anyone is interested :-) 6. My dogs eat Taste of the Wild, wheat and gluten free dog food. Yes it is expensive and I am so greatful to a wonderful woman who is “Godmother” to my 4 leggers!! In the long run it cost less to feed them well than take them to the vet!! 7. Not sure if that answered your question Ed but I guess my answer in a nut shell is No China, Rawhide or anything with a laundry list of ingredients. The simpler the better!!! I know there are some of you saying My dog has never had a problem with rawhide, table snacks and chicken jerky from China. All I can say is if you are feeding your dog treats you must love them. You only have to have a problem one time. Would it be worth the risk??? So many die because of love :-(
