I was brought up in the lovely nation of Qatar. And I had lot of Muslim friends and from them I understood Ramadan is a time that all Muslims look forward to with great reverence. It is mentioned 3 times in the Quran. It is the month of fasting for all the Muslims around the world. It is a time of strengthening family relationships and friendship bonding, among Muslims. Oh! How I love my Muslims friends... :) Ramadan is supposed to be the month during which Muhammad was given the Quranic revelation. Muslims base many things on the moon or lunar calendar, even the start of Ramadan. You must have noticed that all the mosques have a moon attached to it too. So the moon plays a huge role in the Islamic faith. I used to admire the dedication of the Muslims that they would even get on the roads to pray. Their sense of timing was almost perfect, if not over perfect. The best part of Ramadan for me was delicious food and Eid Al-Fitr. Though Eid isnt mentioned in the Quran, just like Christmas not mentioned in the Bible, that marks the end of the fasting period. Jesus Christ, though mentioned in the Quran, is no where associated with Ramadan because he came much before Muhammad. But Jesus Christ did teach Christians the value of fasting in the Bible. So just like Nabeel Qureshi said, we can show our solidarity on the topic of fasting, by fasting along with Muslims, just because Jesus said so :)
