I was looking at some independent game developer training courses - TopicsExpress

I was looking at some independent game developer training courses recently. Although the pricing for this training was WAY above my affordable price range, it was interesting to see that they spoke very highly of a developer platform called Unity. Based simply off the examples used in the ad pitch for that training package, I decided to look closer at Unity itself... It appears to be a cross-platform development tool. Meaning, if you develop a game in Windows, youre also able to develop the game for Mac, IOS, Android, and so forth. There are many free tutorials available online and elsewhere for people that want to develop games. There also is a huge Asset site where people who have developed models, scripts, code, networking ability, and so on have their work on sale. Essentially, this means that if I am great at coming up with plots and quest lines, have basic understanding of code development, but know nothing about background music, developing models, or networking code, I can use the assets provided by others to fill in the blanks. Its outsourcing, and is very, very commonplace in the industry. As my Livescribe project is winding down (just need to upload the files to the website and I can stick the proverbial fork in it), I have known for a while I wanted to shift my focus back to game development... with Pesky Humans being one game Ive had a desire to re-work and revive. I had made a stab at re-programming it for the Android operating system earlier this year, but put the project on hiatus because the game code somehow... lacked... elegance. In the coming weeks, I will be learning to use Unity for development and will have Pesky Humans as the prototype game. I posted a link to lynda with a referral program code, and researching it, Lynda talks quite a bit about development for Unity, Blender (a modelling program), and other resources Ill want to be researching. So, free training on free development tools for a gaming project Ive wanted to work on for a while now... looks like things may be falling into place. My hope is that come the start of the 2014 year, I can put a lot of effort into game development.
