I was looking at some old photographs taken by my late father of Dinorwic Quarries in September 1962 and at an article written in the Meccanno magazine for July 1962 (anyone remember this) we had managed to travel all the way from North Kent in our old ford van (no seat belts then, and no M25) leaving in the early hours of Saturday morning to link up with the M1 (Britains first full length motorway opened in 1959) only three years before our trip, two weeks camping in two ridge tents and cooking on our drip fed methylated spirits cooking ring (what luxuries we had in the early sixties) I visited again in 1995 scrambling around the quarries with my own son and looking for the places I visited with my late father all to no avail (it had all changed beyond recognition) and I couldnt find the spot where we took our pictures from the quarries across Llyn Padarn, but the memories remain of our old van with the windscreen wipers driven off the exhaust manifold on a wet September fortnight and the narrow gauge (great times!)
