I was pleased to see a group of youngsters with a little pup at the shelter yesterday, until I saw what was actually wrong with him. The poor baby had a hernia. Most hernias result from a weakness in the abdominal wall. This means that an organ has pushed itself through an opening in the muscle or tissue that holds it in place. Although this is not immediately life threatening, it will require surgical correction. It is painful and those of you who have had the same problem, know that for a fact. The upside is that he is a loving and playful chap. First in line during meal time and you can see him lapping up his milk and pedigree breakfast. He is due for surgery tomorrow. Our surgeon will push the bulging part of the intestine back into place and sew the overlying muscle back together. I pray he does well and survives. He is a mixed pup and probably will turn out to look like a spitz. Keep him in your prayers tonight...
