I was pretty upset today. I read about the threats, demands, petty quarrels by so called leaders of society, arguing about one word, about race and rights. I read about the threat of May 13 happening because of our lack of consideration and tolerance of one another. I read about people wanting to cut off peoples heads for having a difference of opinion. I got pissed off at these callous leaders acting for the so called good of our nation and how both sides just wanted to act on their ego, disregarding the consequences of their words and action. But at night I got a message. A friend of mine via FB wanted to donate RM3000 for the Buka Puasa event my group is organising for an orphanage. Apart from adding her on my FB sometime ago, I did not know her. Never met her before. In all realistic sense she was a stranger to me. And yet, here was a stranger, a fellow Malaysian, a common citizen doing good without a need to seek attention or garner publicity. She wanted it to remain anonymous. And I realised one thing. For every so called leader who is acting like an A class egomaniac, there are thousands of other common citizens who do much more good silently. They are the true pillars of our society. Silent monoliths of goodness that are the ones holding us together and who refuse to budge in the tirades of extremism and chaos mongering. They are the people like you and who choose to give their time and effort in doing something good on their own. A single mother. A simple businessman. An average student. You guys are the one who take the action that actually bring us together even when our leaders choose to tear us apart with words. And there are more of us than there are them. Faith in humanity restored. Hope in the spirit of Malaysians strengthened. #giftmy
