I was rather amused to watch last evening debate over bickering on LS constituency allotment to senior BJP leaders on English channels - Congress spokes personnel like Keshavan, Abid Rassol Khan & Salman Soz painstakingly expressing deep concern for treatment meted out to senior BJP leaders by pushing constituencies down their throat against their wishes, disrespect shown to seniors leaders in party in particular, even half-heartedly predicted disintegration as if these 3 Congress spokes personnel wanted to vote for BJP in 2014. This reminded the old Bengali proverb, ‘Aunt (Mausi) showing greater pain for child than the child’s mother’. They targeted Namo for all the ills in total disregard to his decisive leadership that made Gujarat the top state in terms of economic freedom as per Cato Institute report of yesterday on Economic Freedom of the States of India . I was even more amused when they questioned ethos of BJP Despite difference of opinion, BJP remained united over the decades because of consultation & engagement, unlike Congress who have had vertical splits several times over against dynastic rule – several new parties like NCP, Trinumul Congress etc. splintered into being. As for their respect for senior leaders, Congress spokes personnel forgot how late Sita Ram Kesri, the them Congress President was locked up in a room only to be replaced by Sonia Gandhi. They looked away when the TV anchor reminded about recent incident of Rahul Gandhi tearing the ordinance approved by senior member of cabinet, that too when octogenarian PM was out of India. They were also reminded about legendry fight and scant respect late Sanjay Gandhi showed to mother, late Indira Gandhi. Finally Arun Jetley has been proved right when he mentioned that senior leaders like P Chitambaram, Digvijay Singh & type have no stomach to fight LS polls. Now they have managed to get son & brother respectively nominated – a win:win situation for both the veterans of Congress – saved their respective face from humiliation of defeat on one hand, perpetuation of dynasty of different sort on the other. NaMo popularity wave sweeping the country for change is for anyone to see.
