I went to a play here in Abingdon and enjoyed it very much. It’s a very nice theater and was full of people. All in all, it’s given me lots of ideas for my book. I thought of a man who started my fictional town and I am going to make up a history. I’m staying at the Martha Washington hotel and it is enormous. It has lots of hallways, all beautifully furnished. Near the check-in desk is a very cute little clothing shop. Inside are lots of arrangements of clothes with coordinating accessories, all done very tastefully. After the play I ended up spending a couple of hours in there, bought a few things, and had a long, interesting talk with the owner. Best of all was that the shop gave me an idea for a character for a future novel. I’m writing this on Sunday morning and I’m staying in my room today and writing my ideas down and putting everything in the computer. I haven’t even typed the opening scene. I’ve been worried that after saying this book was like P&P, that I couldn’t pull it off. But yesterday I wrote a long scene about the auditions for the play. At the end of it, Tate does something funny. When I reread it, I realized how much it was like P&P. It made me laugh. Maybe the book will be like that after all. How are you with clothes shopping? When I was young and thin I loved it. But now I look at a display and say, “I’ll take that,” meaning shirt, jacket, scarf, etc. I’d rather be somewhere working on my books than clothes shopping. Jude
