I will post a blog with more details later but wanted to share todays experience with you...i had a dr appointment this morning afterwards I had an appointment at the American Cancer Society to try on wigs. I have purchased one already, but wanted a second and wanted to be on the receiving end of what the ACS offers to patients. Since 2003 I have been involved in Relay For Life. For 5 years up until 2013 I served on Chilton County Relay for Life Committee, Ive promoted, fundraised and supported ACS and RFL for 13 years now. between Emilee and Lexi they have donated a total of over 30 inches of hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths program who partners with ACS wig banks to give wigs to female cancer patients. Today I left the Birmingham American Cancer Societys office with one of those human hair wigs along with turbans and scarf ties at no cost to me. I also left with such a great feeling. I was asked would I consider volunteering to talk one on one with other breast cancer patients who arent comfortable in a group setting. We got in the car and the girls didnt understand why i didnt have to pay for the wig. They have heard me talking and knew that human hair wigs are super expensive. I explained to them that it was because if selfless girls and ladies like them who donated their hair and others who supported RFL that I and other cancer patients got to receive wigs and other resources provided by the ACS.(locks of love do not give their wigs to cancer patients) I say all that to say this....thank you for supporting your local RFL and ACS. When 2015 fundraising begins and all the doughnuts, car washes, raffles, spaghetti suppers and other fundraising efforts begins, please know you are supporting patients just like me right here in Chilton county. You may be helping fund research, treatment, transportation to treatments, lodging during treatment or even a wig who to a woman facing loosing her hair due to a drug that will save her life can be a priceless gift. But to know my girls have given that gift to another patient just makes my heart smile. It was a great day for me. I will be moving forward on how I can volunteer and do more for RFL and ACS. Thank you to all of you who have supported a RFL team and those who have been on a team. Keep relaying Chilton County!
