I worked in the Civil Rights Movement in 1960s Louisiana and never saw a level of systemic dehumanization there to compare with Israel. There was far more human contact between the races under Jim Crow than under Zionism, which mitigated the impacts of desegregation in the South when it came. For example, Miko Peled, son of an IDF general, reports that despite their close proximity in Israel he never met or spoke with a Palestinian until moving to San Diego. He now travels freely in and out of the West Bank, always welcomed and never threatened, and teaches martial arts to Palestinians. youtube/watch?v=etXAm-OylQQ
