I would certainly like to live in a community where 9 year olds do not have access to Uzis, but I want the community I live in to cooperatively organize to make this a reality, rather than relying on a heavily armed, imperialist/racist police state to enforce it. I think that both sides of this debate have valid ideas to offer. On the one hand, gun control advocates are correct that little children should not be playing with submachine guns. On the other hand, I do not agree that armored pigs with submachine guns should be the ones telling people that they cant have submachine guns. However, the right wing and arms manufacturers (via fronts like the NRA) take this to an absurd extreme and claim that the solution is to let 9 year olds have the freedom to play with machine guns. Gun violence is out of control, and something needs to be done about it, but I think its really important to be critical of the corporate media and Democratic partys suggestions of who exactly should be in charge of controlling guns - I definitely dont think it should be the US government, the worlds largest owner, trafficker, and user of arms.
