I would like some input from some law enforcement people on this and also this a feed back to the Clearlake Police Department because they scared the hell out of me yesterday. see, Ive never been pulled over in lake county, except oncemy bf was pulled over by deputy white, to tell us to get mufflers on my cutlass. other times out of county I let them search my car and they always detain my boyfriend but I understand its because they dont know us and its one of them and two of us and we respect them and they are always polite to us. no big deal. and everytime Ive called cpd or so for assistance theyve been wonderfull and helpful and even officer thompson from cpd gave me advice on how to join the academy. and suggested I apply as an animal control officer first. HOWEVER YESTERDAY was a different story. I was driving taxi and had a passenger and drove by three squad cars on our way to our destination and they immediately turned around and got behind us. the customer noticed and told me they are probably going to pull you over because they saw me and Im on probation ok. fair enough. we drove to the destination without being lit up and as soon as we reached the destination, they surrounded the car. I did what I was always told to do and put my hands on the steering wheel. my passenger had a soda in one hand and cell phone in other. he had a knife in a sheath that was attached to his belt . the officer opens the car door puts hand on holster and first thing he says is You go for that knife Im going to shoot you. um, WHAT? ! ? ! you are threatening to shoot a guy while he is sitting right next to me in the car. what if he misses. do you think I want to see someone got shot? why not pepper spray or taser? with his hands occupied, what are the odds he is going to get that knife from the sheath? then another officer who recognized me from an accident I was in let me get out and stand in the shade. and was very polite. but the other guys scared me. so my question is, to other people who have worked in law enforcement is this: would they really have shot this guy? and if not why take such a rough stance? whats the mentality behind this? All I know isI was really scared yesterday and you arent supposed to feel like that around law enforcement.
