ICY CONDITIONS POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT AND INTO MORNING COMMUTE Areas north and west of Richmond region under freezing rain advisory; drivers should use extra caution While local Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews expect overnight precipitation to fall as mainly rain, drivers are urged to use extra caution when traveling north and west of the Richmond region, particularly on bridges, overpasses, shaded and low-lying areas. VDOT crews will closely monitor weather and road conditions and treat trouble spots, as needed. VDOT offers the following tips for driving in potentially icy conditions: -- Monitor local weather and traffic conditions of travel and destination locations. -- Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. -- Keep a safe distance of at least five seconds behind other vehicles and moving equipment. -- If you begin to skid, do not brake.
