IMPORTANT NOTICE TO MEMBERS ON COPYRIGHT Some members have been posting artwork to the Wall that is a direct (or very close) copy of original artworks, whether they be classics or lesser known works. We want to assert that it is not our responsibility if copied images are posted to this wall. The responsibility remains with the artist and their own conscience, and the 52-Week Illustration Challenge does not endorse these images. Copyright is a very grey area and this post is not intended to open argument, so please bear this in mind if you wish to comment. Most images contain some kind of inspiration from the works of others, and taking parts of other imagery or, indeed, entire parts of other imagery, is something that has been going on for millennia. There is nothing wrong with creating new works from the parts of others--for example, you might be inspired by a photograph and use all or parts of this to recreate a new work done in watercolour. There is also nothing wrong with painting a direct copy of a photograph, even one that is not your own--FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS CHALLENGE. This Challenge is not commercial and the images here are not posted to make money from other peoples works. COPYING THE MASTERS OR OTHER ARTISTS IS FINE BY US--for the purposes of practising your craft here on this Challenge Wall--but what we do ask is that you DO NOT INTIMATE (even by way of just not mentioning it) THAT DIRECTLY-COPIED WORK IS YOUR OWN. If you have just taken small parts of other images or their concepts to create a new work, you DO NOT have to outline every part and where it came from. We are only talking about works that are a DIRECT COPY of other works--or a PART of that other work. You dont need to contact us to ask us if all or parts of one of your images is acceptable. We cant possibly respond to these kinds of questions. We will leave this up to you. As we all know, this kind of thing is incredibly grey and impossible to police. We are not interested in policing it. We are also not interested in quashing your creativity! So please happily continue, with the above in mind. Tania and the team
