IN HYDGE PARK, WENT TO ANZAC MEMORIAL which was built to commemorate one of the worst screen performances by a young Mel Gibson in a film of the same name ( the film is Gallipoli for those multi-tasking inserted of reading this) The stats on G-Day: 7500 Aussies and Kiwis went into battle and 5,553 died or were wounded. And the Aussies were all volunteers (although there was conscription during Vietnam). I talked to a guy who works at the Anzac Memorial (Anzac means Australia New Zealand Army Corps.) He said, One thing most Australians don;t know about WWI is that Gallipoli wash;t the first battler where Aussies fought and died. Earlier the Aussies fought the Germans in New Guinea because they had territory there. Another thing, American s actually fought the Japanese in WW2 before December 7th. Even though it was Dec 8th (And because of the international dateline ()Insert: my brother thinks the international dateline is for looking up escorts) anyway, Japan launches over 100 air raids on Australia. Still an astounding tasteful memorial where there are over 20 figures on the monument, many from all walks of service, and even one for nurses (about time!)
