INDIAN RAIL HIGH SPEED OPTIONS Our rails have a maximum capability to support a speed of 160 km/hr even today, thanks to the age old technology being used and we cannot even reach the threshold speed requirement of 200kmph to be called a high speed rail. It is to be noted that mallard steam locomotives could achieve a record speed of 202.58kmph way back in 1938. Diesel Electric locomotives, which we use today have achieved a maximum speed of 318kmph, i.e TGV 001 model engne. Similarly the electric motor propulsion engines TGV POS can achieve a speed up to 574.8km/hr. Unfortunately we have a Government which least bothers about giving good service to its people, even though, the country stretches 3050km North to South and 2950km east to west.
