INTERVIEW WITH RORY CALHOUN. “Susan was perhaps the most professional lady with whom I have ever worked. She taught me a great deal, just by observing her and watching how she worked and how dedicated she was. She gave no one any of this crap that so called super stars give people. She didn’t step on the little people as far as I saw through the two pictures I made with her. She treated everyone in a very equal manner and I admired her greatly. When WITH A SONG IN MY HEART plays now I look at it just to watch her. That got Robert Wagner on the boards. We were always very friendly and she couldn’t have been nicer. On WITH A SONG IN MY HEART, whenever we finished a scene she would go back to her dressing room and play Jane Froman’s records and mouth them in the mirror. To me, it was wonderful because her speaking voice matched Froman’s singing voice. In my opinion, she should have gotten the Academy Award for that performance.
