IRONY OF STATE APPELLATIONS Many people today have the belief - TopicsExpress

IRONY OF STATE APPELLATIONS Many people today have the belief that the meaning of one’s name influences in part or in whole his behavior. Certain people have even changed their names under the premise that it contributes to their misfortunes. Somebody once told me that your name is one of the most frequent words that you will hear throughout your lifetime, and it may greatly influence your actions as words are powerful. But I am amused by some states whose situations conflict with their appellations. Obviously, the irony of their appellations is surprising. I was flabbergasted when I stumbled over the state appellation of Borno State as HOME OF PEACE. This supposed home of peace has been the capital territory of insurgence which even emanated from there. I still wonder how they proudly bear this sobriquet and how it correlates with their demeanor. More poignantly, how does religious crisis equates peace? It bears the moniker of a home of peace, but portrays an epitome of a den of violence and religious crises. I write with a bleeding heart when I consider the bloodletting prevalent there, most especially the assassination of young ones, who should be the leaders of tomorrow. What a mishmash, an omnium-gatherum and a hodge podge! As I conclude from the forgoing, I may say that a name in itself is not what makes the difference. Working in the consciousness of it, and letting it influence you is all that matters. Which state do you know is an irony of its appellation?
