IS GILGIT- BALTISTAN SOUTH ASIA OR CENTRAL ASIA ? I am a man of science and proving things by evidence. Since my joining face book and cultivating my interest in Central Asia, I have discovered that the regions of Gilgit -Baltistan not only share a lot with Central Asia, but IT IS IN FACT CENTRAL ASIA. Being a Koshur from Kashmir valley, I thought Kashmir had greater links with Central Asia but I am astonished to find that GILGIT BALTISTAN is culturally, geographically and historically part of the Central Asian family. Here are two pictures that amazingly and without any doubt show the Central Asian-ness of Gilgit Baltistan. On the top is a photo of Pamiri Tajik women of Tajikistan and on the bottom is a photo of women from Hunza valley in Gilgit Baltistan. They look almost like sisters from the same family. Same looks, same dress, same attire as if they are from the same place. On the other hand, I I dont see any similarity of Hunza women with those from Punjab plains of South Asia. I think, people from our region need to have an intelligent and educated re-look at our roots. I am not saying that South Asia is any inferior but perhaps we are not at least culturally an integral part of it.
