Corruption: ANC’s new integrity commission has powers to dismiss The ANC has announced a new integrity commission that will have power to dismiss any member, including public servants, for corruption. The ANC’s commission on 0rganisational renewal discussed matters ranging from disciplinary issues to sanctions to illiteracy within local, provincial and national government at the party’s Mangaung conference. The chair of the organisational renewal commission, David Makhura, said the Renewal Integrity Commission will also be a first stop that will determine which applicant can get ANC membership by evaluating new members. The commission has also suggested that every ANC office bearer declare their financial interests to the ANC within three months of taking office. The establishment of the integrity commission would be the first port of call for all allegations of corruption against any member. “The commission will have very strict criteria for membership. The commission will constituted by veterans. “Commissions (at national and provincial level) will be able to hold disciplinary hearings but we hope members will make it easy for the ANC by resigning or stepping aside if there are serious allegations of corruption.
