IS THIS AN APOLOGY OR IS IT DIPLOMATIC ARROGANCE? I say, - TopicsExpress

IS THIS AN APOLOGY OR IS IT DIPLOMATIC ARROGANCE? I say, comrades, the leadership of the Swapo Party Youth League today issued a statement which, for all intents and purposes, can probably be described as a diplomatic arrogance. Following the Swapo Party Central Committee meeting last weekend, Swapo Party Secretary General Cde Nicanor Nangolo Mbumba (speaking ratione materiae), called upon the SPYL leadership to inter alia “pronounce” itself on the allegations of, among other things, insults allegedly hurled at Cdes Pohamba and Geingob (“the Establishment”), in particular. Reference was specifically made in this regard about the opinion piece previously authored by Cde Imms Nashinge. Saying that “an apology was already given to [the Establishment]” and without saying when and how such an apology was “given”, SPYL leadership suggested today, in their “clarification” directed to “the Establishment” and general public that they were already concerned about indiscipline and anarchy in the Swapo Party and that this matter had been one of the topics discussed at Epukiro on June 8 2013. This to me suggests that they needed not to be told or to be lectured by “the Establishment”. Their statement also, interestingly or arrogantly, suggests that indiscipline and anarchy is found all over the Swapo Party, not only on the part of SPYL. Their statement then reads and I: QUOTE The SPYL Leadership therefore directs contrition and assurance of its uppermost consideration to the party leadership with full confidence that present state of affairs will be checked, henceforth, by an antidote adopted by the SPYL Central Committee at Epukiro on behavioral rectification and quelling anarchy within the ranks of the league UNQUOTE. To me, the above quote really looks like an unconditional apology. However, it was undone by these following utterances and I, again, QUOTE If it is so found that we have committed errors, we are sorry, and regret any inconvenience that might have been caused UNQUOTE. The last quote above makes the whole statement sound as if it was a one-step-forward-and-two-steps-backward apology! SYPL then vowed to “continue to remain a vibrant, fearless and militant” carrier of the Swapo Party ideology, policies and programs and to “be vigilant and constantly combat all forms and tendencies of nepotism, favoritism, moral decay, tribalism, individualism, corruption, racism, regionalism and all retrogressive tendencies” in the country. So, comrades, is this not a back to square one situation? SPYL youth even reminded the mostly senior citizens (in “the Establishment”) that the Swapo Party is for the youth as its emblem shows “a young man with a raised fist symbolising the youthfulness and energy of our nation surging forward to social progress.” Therefore they even warned that the SPYL is “not, cannot and must not be viewed as a competitor of some sort to [“the Establishment”]”. They also vowed to “continue to work towards the provision of Article 3 of SPYL Constitution that states that “to constantly work for the promotion and upholding of principles of democracy, accountable and transparent governance, and to promote consultation and dialogue at all levels of the Namibian society on matters of national importance.” Therefore they showed that they are really only loyal to the SPYL and Swapo Party constitutions, but not to “the Establishment”. So, comrades, that is what I have observed about the “apology” and I am wondering what your own observations are.
