Id like to feature an amazing preschool today , its called Between Two Trees Preschool. What attracted me to highlight this school is how innovative their food education program is. The schools co-founder Hui Hua is excited about nature and it shows in how the Between Two Trees Edible Garden curriculum is centred around it . From the edible garden to what the children learn , I sense a deep respect for nature and how food is not just for consumption, the children learn where and how their food came to be from a tiny seed into something that fills their tummy. The school started the edible garden and engaged a farmer, Debbie, who consciously makes an effort to share with the children their role as part of nature and to get them to understand and appreciate the food process, from seed to food. Besides Debbie, the school chef Mr Low , is passionate about serving nutritious food that kids will be drawn to eat. One of the things that he does is juice vegetables like blue pea from the garden and uses the colour to make his coloured steamed eggs . I had a wonderful time learning that even in tiny space starved Singapore, schools can create more meaningful learning environments by integrating nature and getting children to develop a respect and compassion for nature.
