If a Paperclip Could Speak On lawn in front of Congregation Beth - TopicsExpress

If a Paperclip Could Speak On lawn in front of Congregation Beth El – Ner Tamid in Broomall, Pa. stands a large stainless steel Paperclip monument. It rests upon a foundation of Jerusalem stone carefully cut according to specification in the time when the Temples stood in Jerusalem. It is one of three Paperclip monuments in the world. If a paperclip could talk, it would remind us of World War II, when many of the Norwegians wore a paperclip on their lapel. It served as symbol of spiritual resistance against the Nazi regime, 1940-1945. The first paperclip monument stands in Norway in the same country where it is believed that the clip was first fashioned. The second paperclip memorial is found in Whitwell, Tenn. in rural America. Students in the middle school were studying the Holocaust in 1998 and captured the world’s attention as 11 million paperclips were collected over several years to fill a WW II German railcar as a memorial. Each of the paperclips collected symbolized a story and the soul of a victim whose memory is perpetuated forever. The third great paperclip stands in front of a House of prayer, study and community. This paperclip is a living monument of tolerance, in a world of diversity. The hope is that each individual has the capacity to change the world, Tikkun Olam. (Fix the World). Paperclips today are colorful and are manufactured in all sizes. Many of use us use paperclips everyday to fasten papers together. They can remind us that in a world so fragmented each us has the capacity to make a difference. Elie Wiesel wrote, “The opposite of love is not Hate. The opposite of love is indifference.” If you are in the vicinity of Broomall, stop at the Paperclip Monument, sit on the Jerusalem stone bench and make a resolution to connect your life with some one else by performing a goodly deed! Inspired by Harold Sampson, visionary of the Beth El – Ner Tamid Paperclip project
