If cats as a species have some sort of secret hierarchy among them, then I believe placement at the top level is at least partially determined by which cats can get their humans to open the door for them the most times without going outside. How they keep a count of all of that worldwide, I am not sure. But I imagine a system wherein each cat has its own group of little Mouse Slaves that keep a tally on these things and perhaps once per month or quarter they write the total on a piece of paper and send it by carrier pigeon to the Cat Hierarchical Headquarters where the votes are counted by impartial, super mathy, Cockroaches that are promised endless amounts of trash to eat, hookers to hump, and cocaine to snort, in exchange for their services. Since cockroaches are pretty much immortal, then there is no risk of The Cat Mob threatening to kill one of the Counting Cockroaches if they dont rig the results. Im pretty sure Im right about all of this.
