If farmers are given subsidies via insurance on shitty land, what is their incentive to improve production and yield? Are we making farming a non-competitive environment? Should that be the role of government? I think not. Might as well just farm more acres...and while at it, who cares about price either... At one time farmers were known to be upstanding citizens. Is the goal to make them into welfare recipients too? Why buy new machines...why buy better yielding corn...why buy anything to help my land produce when I will get paid no matter what. Maybe the goal should be to simply make sure the insurance pays out....hhhmmm bloomberg/news/2013-09-09/farmers-boost-revenue-sowing-subsidies-for-crop-insurance.html
