If my info is correct, there were 18 bull elk shot in the first day and a half of the elk season. Sure hope these trophy hunters are proud to hang these mounts on the walls of their homes. 18 bulls killed in the first day and a half pretty much proves that this isnt a matter of fair chase. I just dont understand how a hunter could be proud of this type of wildlife slaying. Yes, I understand managing the herd but it needs to be a challenging hunt with the animal having some chance of escaping its fate. Why not tranquilize them and let them go in a fenced in pasture and let the shooters knock them down. At least the Game Commission would be able to do selective killing and keep the herd healthy and keep certain blood lines going. This way, the herd would be managed in a proper manner, the revenue would still be there and the trophy hunter could still proudly display their mount.
